The United Religions Initiative of Somalia (URIS) thrilled to join her members humanitarian day celebrations and from around the nation and the UN partner Agencies by also organizing a direct campaign and an “Humanitarian Research Feature” because the current Somalia civil society organizations, networks and NGOs in Somalia play a vital role in delivering aid and addressing various needs, but also face challenges related to coordination, accountability, and operating in a complex environment.
World Humanitarian Day in 2025 will be on Tuesday, August 19th. It is an international day to recognize humanitarian workers and those who have died in humanitarian service. The day also commemorates the bombing of the UN headquarters in Baghdad in 2003, which killed Sérgio Vieira de Mello and 21 other colleagues. World Humanitarian Day is an annual campaign by UNOCHA. As result of that, the World Humanitarian Day is currently recognized an international day dedicated to recognizing humanitarian personnel and those who have died working for humanitarian causes.
Currently, Somalia has a large number of NGOs and civil society organizations working in humanitarian and development sectors. The United Relief Initiatives of Somalia (URIS) serves as a coordinating body, advocating for and supporting the work of these initiatives/NGOs.
