To be the resilient communities benefit from opportunities for greater health and wellbeing, and URIS plays a crucial role in pulling those threads together to help build community resilience and strengthen healthcare and humanitarian actors’ systems.

Mission

Our work is guided by the humanitarian principles of humanity, neutrality, impartiality, and independence.

Background

We are committed to holding ourselves accountable for the promises we make to our supporters, partners, staff, and most of all, CSOs/NGOs. This means looking back at our commitments, celebrating our successes and learning from any mistakes in order to do more and do better.

The current Somalia civil society organizations, networks and NGOs in Somalia play a vital role in delivering aid and addressing various needs, but also face challenges related to coordination, accountability, and operating in a complex environment. As result of that, URIS needs to cultivate peace cultures via community circling meetings of peace talks.

To implement the above stated aims URIS needs to facilitate the community needs through all cultures of peace as defined by the United Nations, the Culture of Peace is a set of values, attitudes, modes of behaviour and ways of life that reject violence and prevent conflicts by tackling their root causes to solve problems through dialogue and negotiation among individuals, groups and nations who are a member of the UN and beyond. URIS accepted, endorsed and decided to work under the Declaration and Programme of Action on a Culture of Peace in which was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on September 13, 1999. This occurred after ten months of negotiations in the context of preparations for the International Year for the Culture of Peace. UN resolution A/53/243.
