Background
We are committed to holding ourselves accountable for the promises we make to our supporters, partners, staff, and most of all, CSOs/NGOs. This means looking back at our commitments, celebrating our successes and learning from any mistakes in order to do more and do better.
The United Relief Initiatives of Somalia (URIS) was established in response to the plain for humanitarian emergency needs that resulted at the outbreak of civil war and total collapse of the central government in 1991. This crisis, combined with a severe famine which decimated almost a quarter of a million people, left abject suffering and poverty in its wake. Currently, Somalia has a large number of NGOs and civil society organizations working in humanitarian and development sectors. The United Relief Initiatives of Somalia (URIS) serves as a coordinating body, advocating for and supporting the work of these initiatives/NGOs.
The current Somalia civil society organizations, networks and NGOs in Somalia play a vital role in delivering aid and addressing various needs, but also face challenges related to coordination, accountability, and operating in a complex environment.
The United Nations Refugee Agency UNHCR Relief and development section in cooperation with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights which is a department of the United Nations Secretariat that works to promote and protect human rights have developed local Somalia initiative better named United Relief Initiatives for Somalia (URIS) in order to support developing NGOs locally so please also that it will be the Latest Grants and Resources web initiative in Somalia.
Many nonprofit organizations struggle to secure funding from large donors due to ineffective proposals. In this initiative guide, you will join to save the necessary steps.
The URIS network is an important country-level financing tool which provides quick, predictable and strategic funding to NGOs working in Somalia. Funds need to be made available to support institutional capacity building of SNGOs.
Our headquarters are in Mogadishu, with field operation offices across the Somali regions and international offices in Kenya, Geneva, Addis Ababa and most recently in the USA.
