The 2025 European Union Projects Funding in Somalia!

In 2025, the European Union is actively engaged in various projects in Somalia, focusing on key areas like green energy, economic development, and state-building. These initiatives are part of a broader effort to support Somalia’s stability, development, and self-reliance.

1. Green Energy and Economic Development (GEED) Program:

  • This $47.5 million program, launched in May 2025, aims to accelerate Somalia’s transition to a green economy and expand access to renewable energy.
  • The program includes five innovative projects focused on clean energy access and sustainable economic growth.
  • It addresses challenges related to financing, regulatory frameworks, and institutional capacity.
  • The EU is providing $40.5 million, with additional contributions from Germany and other partners.
  • The program emphasizes the importance of renewable energy for sustainable development, poverty reduction, and peacebuilding. 

2. State-Building and Resilience Contract:

  • This program aims to contribute to Somalia’s stability by extending state authority, promoting reconciliation, and creating economic opportunities.
